Over the past two years some items have fallen to the cabin floor in my 2000 Hunter 290. Some accept left gouges and other are very minor scratches. I would appreciate whatsoever advice on how to fill and refinish. As well, having never washed this, I would like to know if this is something I should "tackle" myself. One other notation, I have seen the newer model Hunters and notice that they have a very glossy finish to their teak floors. Is this something I can exercise too. Thanking in advance for whatever ideas and suggestions, Mark Chocolate-brown

Clean and fill.

Mark: I would suggest that yous completely make clean you flooring before you decide that yous are going to put a finish on your floor. I assume that you have oiled wood that has a lot of clay and crud in the grain. You want to be very conscientious that you do not raise the grain whatever more than than you lot demand to. The reason of this is the veneers are very sparse and you need to minimize sanding to a minimum. Once the floor is make clean, you can decide how bad the scares are and fill them with some wood filler (if required), You may desire to get a volume on refinishing forest floors to give yous some ideas. In one case you take cleaned and prepped the wood, you need to decide on the new end. I would propose that you expect at the Poly finishes, Daly Ocean Fin, and Varnish finishes. Daly'south was the stop used on many of the Hunters over the years. It is an oil terminate but looks like varnish (very durable). You desire to find a finish that is not too slippery when wet. One time you start varnishing the sole yous volition probably want to look at varnishing the balance of the cabin area <thou>, then exist conscientious with your determination.

Steam dents!

If y'all have any dents you can fetch those out by putting h2o on and ltting it soak in. The placing a hot iron on the area, the steam brings the wood back to shape.

Skilful idea!

Colin: That is a expert idea. I had forgotten about this method. I would think that he should try this prior to whatever sanding likewise. The water is going to raise the grain so you lot want to make certain that you minimize the sanding.

Another cabinet maker's old trick, along the...

same lines, is to moisten a material, place it over the dent and use the hot iron to steam wet into the wood cells causing them to keen. Terry
